Keywords are the bedrock of search engine optimized content. If this is your first stab at writing content, you may be wondering how many keywords you should use in each post to improve your search engine optimization (SEO).
The truth is just about every content creator will likely give you a slightly different answer to your question. Some advocate using as many keywords as will fit naturally into the created content. Others say start with one keyword and let others appear naturally as you craft the content (this is the route I typically use myself). However, there are also other points to consider beyond how many keywords you’re using if you’re looking for an SEO boost.
1. What is the intent of your content?
Gone are the days when search engines simply looked for content that contained the exact keyword people are searching for. Search engine algorithms have evolved. They now use machine learning and other techniques to consider the intent of what is typed into a search bar. The search engine will also consider the intent of your content, which means you should be, too, if you want it to rank highly.
2. How good is the user experience of your content?
Another important factor that search engine algorithms consider is user experience. For instance, Google’s latest “Page Experience Update” looks at user experience factors when ranking search results. A few of the factors it’s looking for include:
- Page load speed.
- Page stability.
- The likelihood of troublesome ads intruding as the user interacts with content.
3. Does your content and keyword usage sound natural?
There are some odd-looking keywords that gain popularity. There are several keys to mastering the usage of odd-looking keywords. One is to not be afraid to rearrange or slightly change the keyword.
Here is an example of this concept. Let’s say your keyword is “How to fix leaky faucet.” That’s hard to use in a piece of content exactly as it is. Yet, you can slightly change it when you use it in your content and search engine algorithms will still recognize it. For instance, you might change it to “How to fix a leaky faucet,” or “How to fix leaky faucets” when using the keyword in your content. The point here is not to use the keyword word-for-word but to make it sound natural to your potential clients. Accomplish that, and your content is more likely to be more highly ranked in search engine results and read, watched, etc. by more potential customers.
These are just a few of the points you need to consider beyond how many times to use keywords in SEO content. However, there are other content and SEO factors that can also boost your content, your search engine rankings and your overall site traffic. An experienced digital marketing team can help you navigate all these factors and help you meet your content and SEO goals.
