Search engine optimization (SEO) is a fast-paced area of digital marketing. Staying on top of the latest news and developments in the industry is a critical part of success. With more information and less time than ever, it can be helpful to lean on the expertise and specialization of digital marketing professionals.
Since we spend a lot of time navigating the SEO world, we’re happy to share the most important SEO news items we come across. This week, we’ll cover a few updates from Google and some news from Microsoft.
Google confirms some information about indexing
It’s rare to get any information about how Google indexes websites because it is usually so tight-lipped about it. However, Google recently confirmed that it doesn’t index passages from pages separately from the rest of your site.
Passages is a newer feature in search engine results pages (SERPs) that displays a passage of information from your site that is relevant to the user’s needs.
This is important to know because Google’s language up to this point has been a little confusing, causing some webmasters to believe that Google indexes individual passages from webpages separately. This is good news because marketers won’t need to worry about breaking up content within a page to optimize it around a single keyword.
Google has resolved nearly all of its indexing issues
Google has been forward with the fact that it has been working on mobile indexing and canonicalization ever since mobile search became a priority for the company. Recently, Google has confirmed that it has resolved 99% of indexing issues regarding mobile search.
This is good news for marketers, because now you should know why some of your pages may have dropped in rank or seen a decline of traffic. If they’re not mobile friendly, they are likely being ranked lower by Google.
Microsoft Clarity fully launches out of beta
Microsoft Clarity, a tool for visualizing user experience, has been in the beta stage for a couple of years. Now it has been released out of beta and is available to the public.
This will help marketers track user experience on their sites with heatmaps, clickmaps and scrollmaps. This is valuable information for helping you track the users’ journeys and optimize your pages for conversions.
What’s best is that Clarity is a low-impact tool, so it should not affect your page’s load times. Learn more about Clarity here.
