Social media marketing news: Week of January 18, 2021

Social media marketing continues to change the way we look at digital marketing as a whole on almost a weekly basis. With this communication platform offering new ways to interact with your audience and build a following, savvy marketers need to know the latest trends in the field.

We’re always coming across important social media marketing news as a direct result of our line of work, and we think it’s important to share what we come across with our partners. This week, we’ll go over some changes in Pinterest, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Pinterest is getting into augmented reality

Augmented reality (AR) has been growing in use quickly over the last couple of years. Now, Pinterest is looking to get into the AR game with a recent expansion of “try-on” tools.

Users can use these tools to envision themselves in cosmetics and other products that the AR can lay over the user’s face. This is important news for marketers who rely on e-commerce. As Pinterest develops its AR features, marketers may have the option to present more products for users to “try on.”

LinkedIn ads have new features to control visibility

LinkedIn has recently released a feature that gives users more control over their posts. Users now have the ability to control who can see a post and who can comment on it. This is beneficial for segmenting posts for the right audiences.

For example, users can limit the exposure of one post to any followers while limiting another to only a specific group of followers. For example, if your construction business is active on LinkedIn, you’ll want all followers to see some posts, while others specifically about architecture might be relevant only to your architecture audience.

Twitter is changing its verification process

As of January 22, 2021, Twitter has changed its verification policy. It has been sending out notifications for a while now about updating your verification to keep in compliance. However, if you have found that your Twitter account has lost its blue check, you need to go through Twitter’s updated verification policy to reactivate your verification.

This is especially important for businesses that want to maintain their legitimate status in the eyes of their followers.
