Social media marketing news: Week of July 20, 2020

Social media marketing continues to change the way we look at digital marketing as a whole on almost a weekly basis. With this communication platform offering new ways to interact with your audience and build a following, savvy marketers need to know the latest trends in the field.

We’re always coming across important social media marketing news as a direct result of our line of work, and we think it’s important to share what we come across with our partners. This week, we’re taking a look at Microsoft’s Search and Social Management platform, as well as Facebook’s Ad boycott and a new TikTok tool.

Microsoft is launching a free search and social management platform

Microsoft’s Digital Marketing Center is launching for free for small and medium businesses. This platform helps to drive social media and ad campaigns across multiple platforms, including Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

This platform behaves similarly to Google’s Smart campaigns, which uses AI to power keyword and audience targeting and bids. However, unlike Smart campaigns, the Digital Marketing Center allows advertisers to build their own ads and implement automated ad copy to make modifications.

The Facebook Ad boycott is not making too much of an impact at the moment

Several businesses are unhappy with Facebook at the moment for seemingly having a lack of concern for hate messaging and the spread of misinformation. Since money talks, nearly 1,000 advertisers have signed on to Stop Hate for Profit to boycott Facebook Ads until the company addresses these concerns.

Currently, the movement is young both in its inception and in those who are responding to it. Surveys have found that nearly 70% of Facebook users aren’t aware of the boycott and, of those who are, the majority of them are Gen Z men.

TikTok is debuting its TikTok for Business tool

TikTok exploded onto the scene recently, and advertisers around the world are starting to notice. While TikTok ads have already been a thing for a while, TikTok is making it easier for advertisers to get involved by rolling out TikTok for Business.

With this tool, advertisers can manage their TikTok ads through a single portal that helps make it easier to roll out ads.The tool also features tracking to monitor your ad performance and maximize your return on investment (ROI).
