Three Tips for Building Inbound Links

An inbound link to your content is one of the ways that search engines decide if your website is a trustworthy source of information. The trouble with inbound links though is you can’t really control them.

Part of the solution for attracting inbound links is to continue producing quality content that is relevant, informative and helpful but this doesn’t guarantee that someone will link to your site. However, there are a few other steps you can take to attract more inbound links to your site. Check them out below:

1. Be active on social media

When we say be active on social media, we are not saying that you need to post a lot about your brand and services all day. This is considered spam and is a real turn-off for your followers. Instead, you should share quality, helpful and informative content once or twice a day that your followers may find interesting.

Your followers may share your content with others, which in a way is kind of an inbound link, or they may be inclined to actually link to your site from their own web content.

2. Maintain an active blog

Businesses that blog more often have a higher chance of attracting more visitors to their site due to the amount of relevant content that can be found by search engines. Plus, you can make offers and use other tactics in your blog content that can attract inbound links, including:

  • Linking to the site you wish from which you wish to receive a link
  • Creating infographics
  • Offer guides, ebooks or white papers that your audience may find valuable
  • Write a case-study about a client who would be likely to link back to the study

3. (Sometimes) You can ask for a link

Directly contacting someone and asking for a link is generally considered a spammy move and even a black-hat SEO tactic. However, there are few exceptions to this rule. For example, if someone mentions a product or service you offer on their site but does not include a link, it’s okay to reach out and ask for one.

You can set up a Google Alert to get notifications for when someone mentions your brand, so you know when to reach out.
